Walk for Life    Reg Charity CIF G04787917

Walk for Life is a voluntary group committed to helping people with cancer.   It obtained Charitable Status on   14th March 2014.  We are located in a village called Arboleas in Almeria and have been operating for the past 10 years.

The Walk for Life committee meet regularly and remain in constant touch with each other to ensure they administer to the needs of their client base in a quick and conscientious manner.

All of the people we help, however they come to us, are dealt with in the strictest of confidence.  Walk for life has a data protection policy in line with current legislation.

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED

Since the inception of Walk for Life the group has raised in the excess of 130,000 euros and we hope we have gone some way to helping people through what can be a very frightening time in their lives.

HOW WE HAVE ACHIEVED IT

Through the involvement of the caring people of Arboleas, Albox and surrounding areas who have supported the Annual Walk for Life, the Annual Dinner Dance and have advertised in and bought this Calendar.  Also through the support of regular events such as the Cancer Awareness Bowling Day organised by Phil of the Arboleas Forum, Gladrags Fashion Shows and concerts by The Incognito Singers as well as by the generous donations of other groups, local companies and our loyal supporters.

Where the money comes from and where it goes to

Every year people walk and organise events to raise money for this important local charity.  Sadly, every year we get more people affected by cancer, but the good news is that every year we get more cancer survivors.

Imagine, you are a couple on a fixed income and one of you gets cancer.  The medical services here in Spain are excellent and free to EU pensioners but it is the other expenses that cause a great deal of worry and concern when you should be concentrating on getting you or your partner better.

You could be looking at chemotherapy, three times a week in Almeria and/or Radiotherapy every weekday for 6 weeks, 30 days.  Fuel allowance can be €600 for 30 days.  Then there are translation services from at least €10 an hour.  This can amount to anything between €600 and €1500 per patient.  As well as transport and translation costs, the charity gives assistance to people via other charities like Little Owls and Harmony.

The money you raise and donate enables Walk for Life to help with these expenses.

We do not give financial support for medical treatments and investigations. Only translators working legally, within the Spanish Tax System, can be reimbursed
