Boxers Bequest to Walk for Life
Boxers Golf Society was the very first in the Albox area. It was founded in 2004 by golfers Les Ashton and Allan Hay and very soon had over 50 members.
When Allan died suddenly in 2011 his partner Trudy Sailes, also a golfer, presented a trophy to Boxers to be played for every year on Captain’s Day. The current and final holder of the Allan Hay trophy is Tony Horrobin.
For Boxers the last drive has been driven. After 13 years, falling membership and difficulty recruiting people to organise it has caused it to close. The Society has decided to donate all its remaining funds to the charity that Trudy is so involved in, Walk for Life Arboleas.
Boxers’ Captain George Miller and President Tony Hammond presented Trudy and Walk for Life Vice President Jean Bircher with €520.
Walk for LIfe Arboleas is a registered charity that supports cancer sufferers and their families. To find out more go to walk4lifearboleas.com.
