Local Hero Walks 36k for Walk for Life
Richard Clarke had intended to walk the Santiago Pilgrim Trail for the charity early in 2020 but like many things this was cancelled. Instead he walked from Arboleas to los Gallardos. In his own words –
“Well what a challenge and completed. 36.2 Kmtrs from Arboleas to Los Gallardos Bar Simon. Just incredible and can´t say how inspired I am by the other walkers who formed team Calida. At 57 Dave Lyons and myself were the spring chickens of the group. Keith Lazelle a sprightly 67, Tesser 62 and Raymond 74.
We left Arboleas at 4.30 am and with 2 drink and 1 lunch stop hit Los Gallardos at 3 O Clock. All along the way we were hugely encouraged by the so many kind words/messages that were coming in via face book-twitter and are overwhelmed by the pledges and sponsorship we have attracted for the fantastic Walk 4 Life Thanks from the bottom of our hearts.
At Los Gallardos we were greeted with cheers from many of the Calida Homes walking footy club FC Los Amigos. These guys are amazing and, bearing in mind hardly any live in Arboleas, have yet again stepped up to the plate and were able to hand the ladies from walk 4 Life a welcome envelope of cash.
Thanks so much to them Malcolm Armstrong, Richard Wood for coordinating all and special thanks to Guy Baker who walked the last 15K with us all and who certainly got me to the finish. We loved every moment, no matter how painful. Now off to the pharmacy to get these darned blisters sorted. Final thanks to Wendy Clarke and Ester Heitmann our super support car drivers who followed us along whole route.”
The amount raised by this incredible feat of endurance was €2,054. Thank you Richard and all who took part.
