Over 200 Walkers on 8th Annual Walk
Over 200 people did the 8th annual Walk for Life in Arboleas this year. There were runners and walkers, young and old, Spanish, British and Belgian, dog walkers, children, lots of people in fancy dress and two people in wheelchairs being pushed by friends.
Whilst waiting for the walk to start families sat in the shade enjoying Paella by Faustino of Bar La Cinta and Wendy and Micks Hog Roast. There was a dog show by Christine of another local charity ACRAA, entertainment from children’s flamenco troupe led by their teacher Marissa, line dancers Carrie’s Dusty Boots as well as Amy Mallets Pilates demonstration, music during the afternoon from Fusion International; and all compered by our local radio station Smooth FM.89.8
There were 3 and 6 kilometre routes and the first child to cross the 3k finish line was Aimee Newman. The first oldest walker was Sandy Blindell.
170 people booked seats for the evening’s Party in the Plaza but there were at least another 150 sat outside bar La Colmena and on the steps and terraces around Plaza España. Food was once again supplied by Wendy and Micks Hog Roast and a vegetarian Curry was supplied by Maya of Sol Yoga. Powerful vocalist Kayleigh Easton started the entertainment, followed by a virtuoso performance from guitar maestro Danny who sang in English and Spanish. Danny was joined by young singer Jordan and Roadrunner finished off the night.
It will be a few days before we can collect all the sponsorship money but we are hoping to better the amount from last year which saw Walk for Life raising 4960 euros.
President of Walk for Life, Sonia Contalejo commented, “The Walk is so important, unlike many local charities Walk for Life do not have shops so events are our only way of raising funds. Walk for Life gives financial support to people and families in our area, Spanish and other nationalities, who are affected by cancer and the number of people needing help increases year on year”.
GM Photography took hundreds of photos and we think they took a photo of every walker. If you want to see your photo email your number to judi@walk4lifearboleas.com
